Season 27: Adulting is Hard (But Coffee Helps)

It’s December 1st, 2024. I just turned 27.

And you know what I realized?

Being an adult is basically like being a kid,

Except now you need to pretend you know what you’re doing. Spoiler: I don’t.

Tech Geek Turned CEO (Accidentally)

I started working in tech early because I was that kid who’d take apart the family computer just to see if I could put it back together. Fun fact: sometimes I couldn’t. Fast forward a few years, and now I run Nerdshouse Technologies, where I still take things apart—but now people pay me for it. Life’s weird like that.

Real Talk: Adulting is a Scam

Some days I feel like I’ve got it all together. Other days, I accidentally leave the house wearing mismatched socks. (I tell myself it’s a fashion statement.) The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far? Life will knock you down. Repeatedly. You just have to keep getting back up, preferably before anyone notices.

Coffee: My Co-founder

Running a company involves two things: late nights and lots of coffee. Honestly, if coffee weren’t so socially acceptable, I’d be worried about my dependency. But hey, coffee isn’t my fuel—it’s also where my best ideas happen. And, fun fact, my first relationship started over a cup of coffee. Romantic, right? Until I spilled mine and nearly set a napkin on fire. True story.

Even now, some of my biggest business deals start with a cup of coffee. There’s something magical about caffeine—it turns awkward small talk into productive conversations. Or maybe it just makes everyone too jittery to notice my bad jokes.

This Year, I Traveled (and Survived)

This year I traveled more, which was both exciting and terrifying. Turns out, the world is HUGE, and I’ve been living in a bubble. Meeting people from different backgrounds was humbling—like realizing I’m terrible at bargaining in street markets. (“You’ll take my firstborn for this souvenir? Deal!”)

Relationships: When Forever Isn’t Forever

People say your twenties are about finding your tribe. I’ve learned they’re also about losing some of it. Life happens. People drift apart. And while that stings, I’ve realized it’s part of growing up.

There were nights when I’d scroll through old photos, feeling nostalgic for those lost connections. But here’s the truth: every relationship, even the ones that end, shapes who you are. So, thank you to everyone who’s been part of my story—whether you’re still here or not.

Money: The Real Boss Level

Let’s talk about money, the topic everyone thinks about but no one discusses. Here’s what I’ve learned (the hard way):

Save First, Spend Later: Seriously, stash an emergency fund. Life loves surprises, and they’re usually expensive.

Invest Early: If I could time travel, I’d smack 20-year-old me and yell, “Stop buying gadgets you don’t need and invest, dummy!”

Track Spending: Budgeting apps are humbling. Did you know coffee shops can bankrupt you? I do.

Side Hustles Are Lifesavers: One income stream? Rookie move. Find a side gig—or two.

Live Cheap: Just because you can buy it doesn’t mean you should. The freedom of savings beats the temporary joy of a fancy gadget. (Yes, even the ones that glow.)

The Plan (Sort of)

At 27, I’m not sure if I’m doing this “adult” thing right, but I’m giving it my best shot. The goal is to keep building relationships, make smarter money moves, and have fun along the way. And if all else fails, there’s always coffee.

Here’s to figuring life out—one xmistake (and caffeine overdose) at a time. Cheers! ☕ 🎉
